Tomorrow’s Eve is a 5 piece prog-metal outfit from Germany and they have followed up their third full length cd with this 4-song
EP. Wanting to give fans a taste of their new direction, the band released 2 new songs along with 2 reworkings of songs from
previous CDs. This EP also commemorates their successful European tour with Circle II Circle.
The new songs continue the stylistic approach of previous works, including the trademark dramatic vocals of Martin LeMar;
sounding like a cross between Pain of Salvation’s Daniel Gildenlow, Queensryche’s Geoff Tate and Ex-Marillion/Solo artist Fish.
The musicians impress with technical playing and intense precision while still remaining interesting to the non-virtuoso crowd.
The songs are clearly the emphasis here; the first track “The Tower” is a powerful prog-metal journey, ranging from sad vocal
and key duets to a driving, grooving verse, to a wonderful guitar solo which builds layer upon layer to create an intense
experience.
The second track, “Remember” begins as a touching ballad with an absolutely soaring chorus. The track evolves into a growling,
angry beast infusing classic synth sounds with harsh guitars and hard-hitting drums. This is a prog-metal ballad at its
finest.
The last 2 tracks on the CD are re-recorded and re-imagined versions of previous works. They benefit tremendously from the
stellar production by Phil Hillen. Speaking of the production, it is a large, open mix with plenty of power and range allowing
the band to show off their abilities without any sonic deficiency. The songs are more powerful and urgent versions of their
original counterparts. A nice touch for fans and new listeners alike.
The direction Tomorrow’s Eve takes with these new tracks is a good one; blending their classic sound with a modern, fresh
production and logically evolves their songwriting. Quite an accomplishment in this day and age of instant gratification and
copycat acts.
