Coming from Padova in Italy and masterminded by keyboardist Daniele Liverani, Twinspirits claim to have the music that will heal the world and admitedly it is right here inside
this album I'm holding in my hands. It would certainly be nice that the proposition holds true, for our world could surely do with some healing. But is that simple?
If they were to achieve that holy grail, Twinspirits would have had to be much more daring and inventive because "The Music That Will Heal The World" doesn't push any particular
boundaries. While very well produced and interesting to listen to, there's no proverbial envelope being pushed here. This is run-o-the-mill progressive metal with the obligatory
ballads in between and even a very decent instrumental song. Interestingly though, in a genre so crowded with Dream Theater copycats, Twinspirits manage to sound distinctly
themselves and to be honest, that's something to applaud these guys for. Fans of Dreamscape should also keep an eye out for this release as there is certainly such vibe to
this.
From the quite awesome instrumental opener "Projected" all the way to the title track coming last, going through a couple of power ballads and one heavier, more agressive track
("Power To Kill"), this is a very well rounded and diverse album. Liverani being the mentor of this project and being a keyboardist himself, it's no surprise that the album
features heavily on that particular department. And that's fine because he really lays down the perfect backdrop. A word also for guitar prodigy 19 year old Tommy Ermolli
(working with Liverani since he was 14!) who plays fantastically and managed to impress me with his tone and most importantly his restraint in a genre full of
pyrotechnics.
The real secret for this being a pleasant album is a knack for melody and not overplaying. That really is what sets them apart from all the Dream Theater wannabees. All in all,
another fine release expanding Lion Music's ever more interesting roster of talents and while it doesn't quite heal the world, it certainly makes it one good metal album
richer.
